Patrick Nixon, 81, of Fayetteville, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center from complications related to Ramsay Hunt Syndrome.

Patrick was born on March 17, 1945, in Clinton, Iowa, to the late Robert V. Nixon and Hazel Powell Nixon.

He joined the United States Marine Corps in January 1963 and honorably served until July 1979. During his military career, he completed three tours in Vietnam, serving as both a Military Police officer, photographer, and Infantry. On one of those tours, he was assigned to aerial photography, documenting operations from the air.

Following his military service, Patrick began a career with Civil Service, where he worked for 26 years before retiring as a Contracting Officer.

Patrick enjoyed history and cooking. He was known for preparing meals for his family and took great pride in doing so. His love was often expressed through the meals he shared with those he cared about.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Nixon.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Cheryl Hardin Nixon; his children, Patrick Blair Nixon, Jr., Keely Berrios and husband Dan, Heathe Hartley, and Shad Hartley and wife Kendra; his grandchildren, Shannon Berrios, Selah Berrios, Laci Hogan-Wisham and husband Colton, Stone Hogan, Hannah Hartley, Megan Hartley, Kaitlyn Grant, and Trent Maas; and his siblings, Bobbie Dalton and husband Dale, and Julie Strike and husband Terry.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held in Clinton, Iowa. Service details will be announced as soon as they become available.
