Patsy Ann Lawing Melvin, 90, of Fayetteville passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024.

Pasty was born on July 24, 1933, in Kings Mountain, NC, to the late Ernest Lawing and Viola Bennett Lawing.

From an early age Patsy attended Faith Wesleyan Church, where she loved to sing and play the piano. She later became the choir leader and taught the Adult Sunday School Class.

She retired as secretary from the Cumberland County School System, where she worked at Massey Hill and Margaret Willis Schools. After retirement, Patsy volunteered at the Cape Fear Valley Cancer Center as a Spiritual Advisor.

Patsy loved to travel, especially visiting her sister in London. She enjoyed spending time gardening her flowers. Her favorite flowers were the African Violets.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Jernigan-Warren Chapel. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park, 2301 Ramsey St., Fayetteville, NC 28301. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday.

Patsy was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Wayne Melvin, of 50 years; sisters, Beulah Huntsinger, Linda Drake, Yvonne McNally; brothers, Walter Lawing, Ben Lawing, Doug Maness, and Frank Maness.

She is survived by her daughters, Judith Phurrough, Kathy Luck, Robin Little (Neal); sister, Nancy Lawing (Jane); grandchildren, David Phurrough (Arnie), Chase Luck (Natalie), Adam Luck (Jenny), Tess Hutcherson (Wes), Denton Little (Janet); great grandchildren, Maxwell, Scarlett, Logan, Ashton, Avery, Hannah, Braden, and Riley.
