Peggy Joyce Blue Gibbs of Carthage died Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at her home. She was born December 23, 1935 to the late Alton and Lula Blue.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Julian Byng Gibbs of Fayetteville. She is survived by her sister, Rebecca B. Bowen (Jene) of Carthage, a niece, Diann B. Fortune (Dennis) and their son Nicholas of Southern Pines and a nephew, Ronald Bowen of Morehead City and his daughter, Grace.

Peggy grew up on a farm in a close-knit extended family near Carthage. She was a life-long member of Culdee Presbyterian Church of West End where she served her Lord in many capacities. After graduating from East Carolina College, she taught at Southern Pines Elementary School for thirty years. During her retirement years she continued the farming tradition of her family, spent time reading, writing poetry and enjoyed the beach. An avid traveler, Peggy had visited almost every state and made several trips overseas. One of her favorite trips was to Arichonan, Scotland, the homeland of her ancestors. Family history was important to Peggy so she was an active member in the family genealogical society, Sept of Blue.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 31, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Culdee Presbyterian Church with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall at the church.
