Obituary

Mrs. Peggy Blount Vaughan, 77, of Fayetteville, died Thursday, July 17, 2008, at Haymount Rehabilitation Center following a long illness. Visitation will be held at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville from 6 to 8 tonight. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville at Bow and Ann streets. Dr. Jay Coker will officiate, along with Mr. Anthony Foley. Burial will be at Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, the Rev. Earl M. Vaughan of the home; a son, Earl M. Vaughan Jr.; and sisters, Hilda B. Rachels and husband Jack Rachels, and Helen B. Lancaster and husband Maurice Lancaster, all of Fayetteville. Peggy was born in Fayetteville, the daughter of the late Fred and Ruby Blount. She graduated from Massey Hill High School in 1950. Following high school, she worked at Thomason Plywood for approximately three years. She met Earl in Fayetteville while he was stationed at Fort Bragg. They were married in Sedalia, Mo., on May 23, 1953, and lived briefly in Kansas City, Mo., before returning to Fayetteville in August of 1953. Upon returning to Fayetteville, she was employed for 10 years at Highsmith-Rainey Hospital in the business and admitting offices. Although primarily a mother, homemaker and minister
