Obituary

Percy Aldin Warren, 92, of Fayetteville, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2008, in Highsmith-Rainey Specialty Hospital. Mr. Warren was born March 5, 1916, to the late Malcomb and Ila Lee Warren in Newton Grove. He taught school and coached basketball at Lillington High School from 1936 to 1942. He joined the Army Air Corps on June 2, 1942, and served as a technical sergeant with the 359th Fighter Group and 368th Fighter Squadron, Mighty Eighth Army Air Corps, as a radio and radar technician on P-51 Mustangs stationed at East Wretham, England. He was discharged on Oct. 10, 1945. Mr. Warren worked with the Veterans Administration in Winston-Salem from 1945 to 1951. He served as assistant principal and dean of boys at Fayetteville Senior High School, later Terry Sanford Senior High School, where he also taught physics from 1951 to 1978. He also taught science and coached basketball in Lillington, Creedmoor and Newton Grove high schools. Mr. Warren was a member of Hay Street United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Golden Rule Sunday school class. He was a charter member of the LaFayette Society and a member of the Fayetteville Chapter of the N.C. Retired Teachers Association. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2008, in Hay Street United Methodist Church with Dr. John Tyson officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville. In addition to his parents, Mr. Warren was preceded in death by his sisters, Ila Warren Johnson and Jewel Warren Stein; and his brothers, J.L. Warren, Edward Malcomb "Doc" Warren and Carlton Warren. He is survived by his wife, Nora Cleo Blackwell Warren of Fayetteville; his son, Don P. Warren and wife Linda of Fayetteville; his daughter, Diane Warren Maynard and husband John of Apex; his siblings, Ruth Warren Holleman of Apex, Clarence Warren of Newton Grove and Frances Warren Dunn of Newton Grove; and grandchildren, Donald Murray Warren and Tommy Alden Warren, both of Fayetteville, and John Daniel Maynard and Jason Lee Maynard, both of Apex. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hay Street United Methodist Church, 320 Hay St., Fayetteville, NC 28301. Services entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
