FAYETTEVILLE - Retired U.S. Army Sgt Maj. Peter V. Astalos, of Fayetteville, passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at the VA Medical Center in Fayetteville.
Mr. Astalos served in the U.S. Army with the Special Forces during the Vietnam War. Mr. Astalos was preceded in death by his mother and father, Matei and Lydia Astalos; as well as a daughter; Sabine Bilodeau.
Mr. Peter Astalos is survived by loving and devoted wife, Ursula H. Astalos of the home; son, Robert Astalos of Johnson City, Tenn.; daughters, Petra Smith and husband Steve of Jacksonville, Ala., Cynthia Bocharski and husband Bob of Longwood, Fla.; son-in-law, Conrad C. Bilodeau of Payton, Colo.; four grandchildren, Derrick Smith, Stephanie Jansen, Kelsey and Haley Bocharski.
A memorial service for retired U.S. Army Sgt. Maj. Peter V. Astalos will be held on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the Jernigan-Warren Funeral chapel in Fayetteville with the Rev. David Gira officiating. The visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. The burial will follow the service at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be to the American Cancer Society .
