FAYETTEVILLE — Phillip Dean "P.D." Collins, 78, of Fayetteville, passed away on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Collins was born on Oct. 10, 1933, in Surry County. He was a retired sergeant with the North Carolina Highway Patrol. Sgt. Collins was also an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was an active member of Lafayette Baptist Church. He was a Mason with the Creasy Proctor Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Effie Wooten and Wayne Collins; brother, Billy Collins; and sister, Muriel Carter. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at 2:30p.m. in Lafayette Baptist Church with Dr. Brian Lee and the Rev. John Cuthill officiating. Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, from 1 to 2 p.m. Mr. Collins is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Magalene Wagoner Collins of the home; sons, Tim Collins and wife Kathy of Richmond, Va., and Darrell Collins and wife Cathy of Hope Mills; brother, Clyde Collins and wife Colleen of Elkin; half sister Brenda Lanning of Chesapeake, Va.; six grandchildren, Jason Collins, Jency Collins, Brianne Morrison, Alexis Collins, Brittany Collins and Zachary Collins; and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Lafayette Baptist Church, 501 Hope Mills Road, Fayetteville, NC 28304. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, from 1 to 2 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at 2:30p.m. with Dr. Brian Lee and the Rev. John Cuthill officiating. Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.
