Obituary

Phillis J. Davis, age 83, of New Philadelphia,Ohio died peacefully in her sleep, with her family at her side, following a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. A daughter of the late William B. and Bonnie (Lunsford) Cook, Phillis was born at Cumberland, North Carolina on March 14, 1929. She attended school at Stedman, North Carolina and later in life returned to school where she earned her certification as a pilot. For 34 years, while raising her family, Phillis resided in Alaska. She celebrated life with her love of travel, having visited numerous countries around the world, the "lower 48", Hawaii and Canada. Phillis will be missed by her family which includes two daughters, Ann Martin and Debbie Green; four sons, Thomas, Larry, Jerry and Michael Davis; four sisters, Margie Sandy, Carol Lloyd, Peggy Currie, and Bonnie Jones. Eleven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews complete the family. In addition to her parents, Phillis is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, McClellan H. Davis; a son, Martin Davis; four brothers, Blake, Carl, Martin, and Robert Cook; a grandson and two granddaughters. Her family and friends will gather for visitation on Saturday, December 8, 2012 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in the Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home at Fayetteville, North Carolina. A funeral service celebrating Ms. Davis' life will be held on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at 2:30 PM in the funeral home's chapel. Mausoleum Emtmbment will follow in the Cumberland Memorial Gardens at Fayetteville. Those wishing to do so may send the family personal condolences or light a candle in memory of Phillis by visiting her permanent memorial located on the funeral home's website. Instead of flowers, Phillis' wish was to have contributions in her memory be directed to the Make a Wish Foundation Gift Processing Center P.O. Box 6062 Albert Lea, MN 56007-6662, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or to Akron Children's Hospital, 215 West Bowery, Akron, Ohio 44308. Her family and friends will gather for visitation on Saturday, December 8, 2012 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in the Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home at Fayetteville, North Carolina. Mausoleum Entombment will follow in the Cumberland Memorial Gardens at Fayetteville.
