Ralph R. Bird Fayetteville - Mr. Ralph Russell Bird, 63 of Fayetteville passed away on Tuesday, 9 Nov, 2010 in Randolph Hospital in Asheboro, NC following a long illness. He was born August 18, 1947 in Brush Colorado. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War with the Adjutant General Corps and later a civil service employee for 24 years, beginning at Ft Bragg followed by assignments at Karlsruhe Germany and Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE). He returned to Ft Bragg in 2001 and just prior to his retirement in 2009, he worked at the Special Warfare Center (SWIC). He was active in the community and coached soccer and basketball over a 17 year period in Fayetteville and in Europe including child and youth services teams, church and recreation teams, and in the Amateur Athletic Union program . Mr. Bird is survived by his wife, Victoria Post; one son, Courtney and wife Kelly Mabry of Cary and two daughters Erin and Kelly and his mother Earline McKinney of Grand Junction Colorado. Mr. Bird was preceded in death by his father James A. Bird Jr. The funeral will be Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at 1 p.m. in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel in Fayetteville with the Chaplain John Franklin officiating. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM in Sand hills Veterans Cemetery. The Family will receive friends Tuesday, Nov 16, 2010 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
