SGM Ralph D. Link, US Army Retired, 85, of Fayetteville, died Saturday, March 10, 2007, at Haymount Rehab & Nursing Center.
Mr. Link was an Army veteran of three wars having served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He served in the European Theater with the 517th Parachute Regiment making a combat jump into France and fighting at the Battle of the Bulge. He entered Berlin as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division and was scheduled to serve in the Pacific Theater when WWII ended. He was Command Sergeant Major of the 782nd Maint BN, 82nd ABN DIV, Fort Bragg and later retired from the XVIIIth ABN Corps C-4 office in 1969.
Ralph served as a civil servant for the Fort Bragg Garrison after retiring from active duty.
He was an avid golfer and was a parishoner at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at 2 pm at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with Father John Kelly officiating. The burial will follow at Post Cemetery on Fort Bragg with military honors.
Mr. Link was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Margaret Link in 1996.
Mr. Link is survived by his son, LTG. James M. Link and his wife, Judith, of Huntsville, Alabama, and his daughter, Kathleen Brinson and her husband, Julian, of Fairview, NC; and two granddaughters, Carey and Jennifer.
The family will receive friends for 30 minutes prior to the service at the church Tuesday afternoon.
