Bunce

Obituary

Randall D. Bunce, 95, of Fayetteville, NC passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at the NC State Veterans Home.

"R.D." led an extraordinary life.  He was born January 9, 1926 in Cumberland County to the late Walter Lee Bunce and Molcie Catherine Matthews Bunce.  He demonstrated honor in World War II as he fought in the Battle of the Bulge at age 19, receiving a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He married the love of his life, Katie Blanton Bunce on August 3, 1949 in a beautiful ceremony at Campground United Methodist Church, in the Owen Chapel. He and Katie enjoyed 56 blessed years of marriage. They went on to build an incredible family of 4 children,  30 grand/great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren. They resided in Fayetteville, NC and Columbia, SC, where they enjoyed the beauty of Lake Murray and the fun of day trips to the lake with their grandchildren. In August of 1999, they celebrated 50 years of marriage with their family and church family at Plantation Pointe, overlooking the wide waters of their favorite lake. Of all the wonderful things Randall did in his life, the most valuable was to give his life to Christ. Because of that decision he is able to enjoy the welcoming arms of his Savior in his Eternal Home.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Katie Blanton Bunce; his son, Oliver Randall Bunce; his brothers, Paul Bunce, Howard Bunce, Broadus Bunce, Ted M. Bunce; and sisters, Oleta B. Griffin, Van B. Porcelli, and Dorothy B. McKeithan.  Surviving are his daughters, June Bunce Shough, Abbie Bunce Whitney, and Belinda Bunce Cashwell; sisters, Ettrice Bunce Strickland, Adele Bunce Johnson; brother, Dr. Dearl L. Bunce; grandchildren, Kelly Hudson, Tara Hazelrigg, Wendy Jacobs, Katie Barber, Ashley McCulloch, Lawrence Whitney IV, Angus "Dixon" Cashwell, William Whitney, Robyn Pomrink, and Adam Bunce;  18 great grandchildren, and 10  great-great grandchildren.
