Randy L. Smith FAYETTEVILLE — Randy L. Smith, 45, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014. He was born in Robeson County and was a graduate of West Robeson High School, Fayetteville State University and the University of North Carolina Pembroke. He worked 20 years as a law enforcement officer, serving with the Hoke County Sheriffs Office and the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission. Randy was a loving and dedicated husband and father and dedicated his life to his family. He is survived by his wife, Gina Smith; his daughters, Alyssa and Leah Smith; his stepchildren, Michael and Bianca; his mother, Mary A. Smith; his father, William E. Smith; his brothers, Eric, Dan, Kenneth-Earl, Warren and William Jr.; and his sisters, Mary-Ann, Shirlene and Gwendolyn. Friends and family may attend the wake from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, in Covenant Love Church. Burial will be in Fayetteville Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Randy's memory may be made to the Duke Lung Cancer foundation. Randy L. Smith, 45, of Fayetteville, NC, succumbed to lung cancer at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 15, 2014. Randy is survived by his wife Gina Smith, daughters Alyssa and Leah Smith, stepchildren Michael and Bianca, parents William Earl and Mary Alice Smith, brothers Eric, Dan, Kenneth-Earl, Warren and William Jr., sisters Mary-Ann, Shirlene, and Gwendolyn and many loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. Randy was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all. Randy was born in Robeson, North Carolina and was a graduate of West Robeson High School, Fayetteville State University and The University of North Carolina Pembroke. He worked over 20 years in law enforcement. Randy graduated from the Law Enforcement Academy in 1993. He worked for the Hoke County Sheriff's Office from April of 1993 to March of 1994. He was then employed with the North Carolina Probation from March of 1994 to March of 2000. Randy then decided to reach out for one of his long time dream and graduated from the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission Academy where he served for over 14 years. Randy loved the thought of being that 1% of making this world a safer and better place to live. Randy loved sports and was a die heart Dallas Cowboy fan. He loved the out doors and nature had a way of calling his name. Whether it was fishing, hunting or just enjoying the tranquility of the woods and water there was a soft place in his heart for the outdoors. He also enjoyed cooking, mentoring others, playing pool, and spending time with his family. There was nothing Randy enjoyed more than being a father and grandfather. His kids and grandkids loved him very much and "Papa Pump" will be missed greatly". The family will receive friends on Wednesday February 19, 2014 from 5pm to 8pm at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, the funeral will be conducted Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 2pm in Covenant Love Church. Burial will follow in Fayetteville Memorial Cemetery.
