CAPE CARTERET - Raymond Love Haire, of Cape Carteret, died Monday, June 29, 2009, peacefully in The Haven of Carolina Place in Pineville, after a period of declining health.
He was born July 5, 1920, in Cumberland County. Raymond was married to the former Dorothy Elise Beard, who preceded him in death. His son, Glenn Haire, also preceded him in death. He graduated from Stedman High School. Raymond had a long career in the music industry. He owned and operated Harmony Music Co. in Charlotte for many years before retiring to Cape Carteret. He was an avid fisherman and loved his coastal home. Raymond was a longtime member of Cape Carteret Baptist Church and active as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He also served on numerous committees in building and expanding the church facilities. Previously, he was a longtime member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte and served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He loved the Lord and never failed to offer a helping hand to those in need.
His grandchildren affectionately called him Sugardaddy and Pop Pop.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Eloise Williams Haire of Dunn; daughters, Janice McEwen and her husband, J. Dowd McEwen Jr., of Charlotte, and Sharon Finch and her husband, Terry Finch, of Weddington; grandchildren, Donna Byrd and husband Tracy of Santiago, Chile, Michael Ross and wife Mary of Charleston, S.C., Hunter Finch, Marshall Finch and Cole Finch of Weddington, Kendall Haire of Cary, and Dr. Ashley Haire of Austin, Texas; and Jenny Haire, widow of son Glenn Haire, of Cary; great-grandchildren, Sarah and Hannah Byrd of Santiago, and John Haire of Cary; and siblings, Sybil McCormick and Madeline Grimes, both of Fayetteville. The family gratefully acknowledges the staff and caregivers at The Laurels and The Haven of Carolina Place for the care and nurturing of their father during his residency.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, July 2, 2009, at 2:30 p.m. at Jernigan and Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville with the Rev. Brooks Grimes, his nephew, officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
