Raymond Yoshizo Matsumura, 88, of Fayetteville passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023.
Raymond was born on the Big Island of Hawaii on May 5, 1935. He left his island home to join the Army in 1954. He was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam and Korean War. After retiring from 22 years in the military, he lived and worked in Fayetteville as a carpenter. He returned to his island home in his later years for the remainder of his life.
He was a kind generous man, who loved to try and make his family and friends laugh and share in the joy of life. He was an active member of SGI-USA (Soka Gakkai International-USA), the largest Buddhist community in the US. He loved to bowl, play golf, go fishing and travel.
His death was preceded by his wife Maryanne Kihara, his parents Walter Matsumura and Violet Nishimura, and daughter Iris Matsumura.
He is survived by his children Raye-Ann Dufer (partner Chuck Junkine), Angie Domachowski, Ivan Matsumura, Dean Matsumura (partner Stacey Thom), and Carol Matsumura (partner Lisa Rogers); 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be held on Monday, December 4, 2023, at 9:30 am in the Jernigan-Warren Chapel with a procession to Cumberland Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.
