Obituary

Dr. Raymond Joe Rundus, 79 of Hope Mills passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 in his residence. He was an Army veteran. Dr. Rundus was a retired English professor at University of North Carolina at Pembroke after 25 years. His self-entitled "Still Workin' on it " column anchored a page in the Sandspur community newspaper each Wednesday for six years. The wide range of topics and people he covered-from his adventures in golf to fine literature –were a testament to his keen intelligence and outgoing personality. Raymond was an active member of the Friends of the Library at University of North Carolina at Pembroke. He was the author of the book Joseph Mitchell: Pilgrim in Manhattan. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Esther Rundus and brothers Donald Rundus and Ronald Rundus. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. in Jernigan-Warren Chapel. Entombment will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Dr. Rundus is survived by his wife Brigitte Rundus of the home; sons Richard Rundus of the home and Ronald Rundus and wife Nikki of Seattle, Washington; daughter Victoria Rundus and husband David Clark of Hendersonville, Tn., brother Darrel Rundus of Kansas; granddaughter Ava Clark and his elusive cat, Dummkopf. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to University of North Carolina at Pembroke Friends of the Library c/o Mary Livermore Library 1-University Dr. Pembroke, N.C. 28372.
