Obituary

Richard "Daddi-O" Barbour died Saturday, May 12 after a courageous fight against Acute Myeloid Leukemia. A native of Fayetteville, Richard was born January 26, 1948, the son of the late Leon Barbour and Lula Barbour. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Jaye Barbour, his son David and his daughter Heather. Richard is also survived by his daughter-in-law Susi, grand-daughter Jacqueline, sister Lynn Wilkinson, brothers Dennis and Jerry Barbour, and a large extended family. Richard was a devoted family man and eternal friend to everyone he knew. True to his nickname, Daddi-O served as a guardian, mentor and paternal caregiver to many. His kindness and generosity has helped many to learn, grow and prosper in life. Many people in the Cape Fear region know Richard Barbour as the co-owner of Hamont Body Works, the Barbour family business founded in 1959. By operating one of Fayetteville's oldest business institutions, Richard has had the pleasure of forming many true friendships and long-standing relationships while serving his community. Richard served in the United States Army from 1968 – 1971 and was deployed to Korea. Daddi-O loved Carolina Basketball and spending time with friends and family at his cottage in Surf City. Many weekends were spent teaching rookies and tourists how to surf-fish. The fish will be happy to know his hook isn't the water. In celebration of the beautiful life of Richard "Daddi-O" Barbour, funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 15 at 2pm in the Jernigan – Warren Chapel in Fayetteville. Burial will follow the services at Cross Creek Cemetery #3 Visitation: Monday, May 14, 2012 from 7pm to 9pm at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home Funeral: Tuesday May 15, 2012 at 2pm in Jernigan-Warren Chapel, Burial: Cross Creek Cemetery #3
