Retired Army Sergeant Major Richard Allan Chamra, 83, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2020, at his residence in Shannon, N.C.

Richard was born on January 1, 1937, in Otter Creek, Iowa to the late James and Velma West Chamra. He retired after more than 30 years of service in the United States Army Special Forces.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Tomiko Chamra, and his son, Ricky "Rick" Allan Chamra.

Surviving are his daughters, Diana Hood, Debra Chamra and husband, Nicholas Abruzzo; son, Robert Chamra and wife, Krista; sisters, Mary Jane Tollefson and Barbara Randall; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service with full military honors at the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery will be announced at a later date.
