Rev. Richard Edwards, 75, of Fayetteville, went home to be with his Lord, Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center surrounded by his family. The family will receive friends Thursday September 8, 2011 from 7pm to 9pm at Jernigan-Warren. The funeral will be held Friday, September 9, 2011 at 11am in Carroll Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. Randy White, Rev. James Baker and Rev. Elmore Strickland officiating. The burial will be private. He pastored New Center Baptist Church in Bladenboro, Butters Baptist Church in Butters, Clybonville Baptist Church in Lumberton, Carroll Memorial Baptist Church & Walstone Baptist Church both in Fayetteville, NC. He was also the interim pastor at several Baptist Churches in the Cape Fear Region & his love of music ministered to many people. He was preceded in death by his parents, Plumey & Harvey Edwards & 2 brothers, Norman & Nash Edwards. He is survived by his wife Sarah Bowen Edwards, two sons, Burl Richard Edwards of Southern Pines and Phillip Wayne Edwards & wife Debbie of Florence, SC, 3 Sisters, Tishie Taylor of Kinston, Carrie Mae Watson of Bladenboro & Ann Willard & husband Hope of Tabor City. 2 Brothers, Sanford Edwards & wife Velma of Bladenboro & Harmon J. Edwards & wife Sylvia, of Lumberton, a grandson, Jonathan Edwards of Bladenboro, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carroll Memorial Baptist Church, 2220 Camden Road, Fayetteville, NC 28306 or NC Baptist Childrens or Wake Forest University Medical Center Cancer Center.
