SSG Richard E. Howell Sr. (Rick) Dad went to be with his Lord and Savior Feb. 10, 2009. Dad was born in Fayettville, NC on Oct. 25, 1946 to Bradley & Gladys Howell. Rick Howell is survived by 5 children: Richard E. Howell Jr., Angela Annett Howell, Keith Thomas Howell, Tammy Marie Laughton, and Johnathan Howell. Along with 20 grandchildren: Meagan & Bradley Howell, Tony, Kaila, Angelica, & Jessica Munoz, Zachery, Samantha, Kaya, & Joshua Howell, Alanah, David III, Avery, & Anya Laughton, Fantaysia, Bobby, Johnathan, Dillon, Cody, and Elizabeth Howell. Neices & Nephews: David Howell, Racheal Kay, Carrie West, Lienwood Howell Jr., And Stephen Howell...... Dad made a career of outstanding service in the U.S. Army. He bravely served 2 tours in the Vietnam War. He was part of an elite 335th assault helicopter company and flew more than 25 aerial assault missions. He received many accommodations for outstanding service in war time: The Bronze Star, Vietnam service medal,Silver Service Medal, 2 Bronze Service Medals, and the Army Accommodations Medal. After retiring, he carried the same outstanding characteristics of service in his everyday life. Dad had a great faith and love for our heavenly father that could be seen in the way he lived his life. His love for his family and friends was one that could not be matched. He was honest, brave, and loving with a very generous spirit that all could see. He will be deeply missed and always loved by all that knew him. The Family will receive friends from 12:00pm to 2:00pm on Friday February 20, 2009 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, Graveside services with Full Military Honors will follow at 2:00pm in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street.
