Robert Lynn Alexander, 94 of Ocean Isle Beach, formerly of Fayetteville, died Thursday December 8, 2021.
Born in Vass on September 9, 1927, to the late William Frank and Loula Belle Alexander. He was one of nine children. Robert served in the Merchant Marines from 1944-1947 on hospital ships in Europe and the Philippines. On 6/25/1948, he married his childhood sweetheart, Thelma Marie Autry. He then worked for Carolina Power and Light until he was drafted in the Army in 1952. He served as a Chapel's Assistant in the Army in Germany until 1954. He returned to work for Carolina Power and Light for 2 years. He then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1956 - 1959 where he obtained a Business degree with a minor in Accounting. In 1970, he received his private pilot's license and flew until 2009.
As a member of MacPherson Presbyterian Church he served as Treasurer, Elder and Deacon. In 1976, he founded Southern Homes of Fayetteville but closed this business in 1980. In 1996, he began raising Christmas trees in the mountains of NC and Moore County, NC. In 1999, he moved to Ocean Isle Beach, NC where he was active in the Shallotte Presbyterian Church.
Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Marie Alexander. He was the last surviving child of William Frank and Loula Belle Alexander.
Surviving are his two sons, Tommy Alexander and Phillip Alexander, and two granddaughters.
Funeral services will be Thursday, December 16, 2021 at 2:00pm at MacPherson Presbyterian Church with burial to follow at MacPherson Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Fayetteville. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:00 pm.
