Robert Edward Blackburn, 89, of Fayetteville, passed away on Monday, August 16, 2021.
Bobby was born on August 8, 1932, in Pender County to the late Herbert Blackburn and Mary C. Larkins Blackburn. He was retired form the State Department of Transportation and retired as Captain from the Cumberland County Rescue Squad.
Bobby was a member of Village Baptist Church, served in the U.S. Army, a Mason and Past Master of Lebanon Lodge #391, and a member of the Sudan Shrine Temple.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at 3 p.m. at Lafayette Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:20 – 2:30 p.m. prior to the service at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Louise Carter Blackburn; son, Ronald Terry Simpson; sister, Mary Woodcock; and great grandchildren, Harper McClenny and Mason Warren Peele.
He is survived by his daughters, Connie Johnson and husband Ray, Beverly Pierce and husband Jerry; brothers, Herbert Blackburn, Jr., Julian Blackburn and wife Ruby; granddaughter, Valerie Peele and husband Eric; and great granddaughter, Aubrey Rae Peele.
