Retired US Army LTC Robert Joseph "Joe" Getz, 72, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday, August 21, 2012, in his residence. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2012, at 3 pm in Camp Ground United Methodist Church with Rev. Haywood Smith presiding. The burial will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street with military honors. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 pm at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home and Sunday from 2 to 3 pm at the church. Mr. Getz served in the Vietnam War and retired from the Army after 22 ½ years of service. Joe is survived by his wife, Eleanore D. Getz of the home; daughter, Deborah Sims and husband Hank of Chesapeake, Ohio; son, Jeffrey Getz and wife April of Charlotte; 2 grandchildren, Evan Joseph Getz and Bryson Cooper Getz, both of Charlotte; and 2 sisters, Nancy Swisher of Fairmont, WV and Connie Caudy of Elkins, WV. He was preceded in death by a sister, Juanita Petrusha and brother, Louis "Mac" Getz. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Ground United Methodist Church, 4625 Camp Ground Road, Fayetteville NC 28314.
