FAYETTEVILLE — Robert "Wayne" Jones, 72, of Fayetteville, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.
Wayne graduated from Massey Hill Senior High School. Wayne retired from Sears after more than 39 years of service. He was an avid fisherman, loved gardening, NASCAR racing, car shows and traveling to the beach or mountains with his wife. He also enjoyed building personalized birdhouses of which several have been on display in the Cape Fear Botanical Gardens. Wayne loved taking his granddaughters to Myrtle Beach water parks, pulling his young grandsons in a wagon behind his riding lawnmower, and watching cartoons with his grandchildren, especially Curious George.
Wayne was a member of Haymount United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dannis W. Jones and Dorothy R. Jones of Fayetteville.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Sheryl Nasekos Jones of the home; sons, Michael W. Jones and wife Susan of Fayetteville, Steven W. Jones of Fayetteville; daughter, Tonia J. Collins and husband Josh of Fayetteville; stepson, David G. Catlett and wife Shawna of Carrboro; and nine precious grandchildren, Meagan, Katelyn, Max, Summer, Hunter, Colin, Bailey, Miles and Noah.
The funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at Haymount United Methodist Church at 11 a.m., with the burial following in Lafayette Memorial Park. The family will receive friends today, Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville.
