Obituary

FAYETTEVILLE - Retired Army Sgt. 1st Class Robert Harry Lieneck, 68, of Fayetteville, died Sunday, July 25, 2010, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mr. Lieneck was born in Manhattan, N.Y., in 1941, to the late Walter and Louise Lieneck. He spent his entire adult life as a resident of North Carolina once the Army brought him here. Mr. Lieneck was a decorated Army veteran of the Vietnam War, having received, among others, the Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation, Air Medal, Meritorious Service, Bronze Star and Silver Star medals. He retired from the Army after 20 years, with his last assignment being with the 1st Squadron, 17th Cavalry, 82nd Airborne Division. Following the Army, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for the next 20 years. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2010, in Jerrnigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel in Fayetteville, with burial following in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake with military honors. He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Johnson, and her husband, Johnnie, of Hope Mills; and two grandchildren, Abigail and Daylah. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fayetteville Animal Protection Society, 3927 Bragg Blvd., Fayetteville, NC 28303, or to Unchain Cumberland County, 7132 Sim Canady Road, Hope Mills, NC 28348. Services entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
