Obituary

Robert Love Carter, 83, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on May 16, 1942, in Cumberland County, Robert was the son of the late Jack Cashwell Carter and Myrtle Carroll Carter. He was raised in the Grays Creek community, where he developed a deep appreciation for family, hard work, and the outdoors.

Robert was a distinguished professional and lifelong learner. He earned his BA in Accounting and his MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was honored as the first Morehead Scholar from Cumberland County. A Certified Public Accountant, he dedicated much of his career to education and public service. He retired from Fayetteville Technical Community College, where he served with distinction as Vice President of Fiscal Affairs.

A gifted athlete, Robert played baseball for UNC and was a proud member of the university's undefeated 1964 team. His passion for athletics continued throughout his life, as he became a highly decorated Senior Olympian.

Robert found great joy in the outdoors. He loved working on his tractor, tending to his land, and growing tomatoes. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and especially cherished his fishing trips to the beach with close friends. A deeply patriotic man, Robert famously painted the roof of his barn red, white, and blue as a tribute to military pilots flying overhead.

Above all, Robert was a man of strong faith. He loved the Lord and spent much of his time studying his Bible and his faith guided his life which was evident in the way he loved and cared for others.

Robert will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud Papa, caring brother, and loyal friend. His warmth, wisdom, and generosity touched the lives of all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Patricia Langdon Carter; his son, Jason Eastwood Carter and wife, Katie; his daughter, Dr. Crystal Noel Carter, MD; his sister, Judith Carter Hardison and husband, Dr. Joe Hardison, MD; and his cherished grandchildren, Hans Eastwood Carter and Kaes Andrew Carter; and his beloved dog, Montana.
