R. Riley Williams, Fayetteville craftsman, gardener, admirer of camellias & Japanese maple trees, bass fisherman & quail hunter, Carolina supporter, WWII naval veteran and retired office equipment salesman died early Saturday morning at the age of 87. During his life, he exhibited a genuine interest in people and in life-long learning. For 59 years, he was devoted husband to Patricia Smithman Williams. Riley has 5 children who feel blessed to have been raised by such a loving, unique individual: Marlene (Vikor) of Greenbelt, MD, Robert, Jr. and, Terry (Fox) of Fayetteville, Lisa (Bryan) of Wilmington, and Julie (Wilson) of Hillsborough. Riley enjoyed his 8 grandchildren: Kelly Bryan Van der Vaart, Jimmy Bryan, Robbie Bryan, Nathaniel Fox, Matthew Fox, Katherine Fox, Miki Vikor & Josh Wilson.
Visitation will take place 10am to 11am Thursday May 17 at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service there at 11am. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street. The family invites memorial donations to Cape Fear Botanical Garden, 536 N. Eastern Blvd., Fayetteville, NC 28301.
