Robert Paxton Young, 85, of Fayetteville, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2009.
Mr. Young was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served on the subchaser SC1281, which was part of the famous Splinter Fleet. This ship was one of four subchasers built in Elizabeth City. He was a retired tax appraiser with the city of Fayetteville. Mr. Young was a member of Camden Christian Fellowship.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel in Fayetteville, with the Rev. Chris Graves officiating. Burial will be in Lafayette Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
Mr. Young is survived by his wife, Elizabeth \\"Nick\\" Young of the home; son, David Young and wife Pam of Winston-Salem; daughter, Susan Morris and husband Terry of Fayetteville; brother, Harold Young and wife Erma of Fayetteville; sisters, Evelyn Meyers of Raeford and Hortense Jackson of Leesburg, Va.; nine grandchildren, Caroline, Matthew, Andy, Hallie, Emma, Robbie, Katie, Walter and Michael; and a great-grandson, Danny.
