FAYETTEVILLE - Roland Edward \\"Eddie\\" Whitehurst Jr., 67, of Fayetteville, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, in his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Whitehurst was a native of Virginia Beach, VA., where he went to Princess Anne High School.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Mr. Whitehurst was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He also served in a civilian capacity during Operation Desert Storm. He retired from civil service at Fort Bragg as an equipment specialist in electronics after more than 31 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland Edward Sr. and Ida Bell Whitehurst.
He was a member of the Good Sam Beret Chapter of the Good Sam RV Club. He loved the outdoors and RVing with his family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm tonight at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville.
On Thursday, November 13, 2008, the family will receive friends from 1 to 3 pm at Claytor Rollin Funeral Home in Poquoson, VA. At 3 pm, Thursday, a memorial service will be held in Claytor Rollin's chapel.
He is survived by his wife, Mae Richmond Whitehurst of the home; three sons, Rob Whitehurst and his wife, Perryann, of West Point, VA., John Whitehurst and his wife, Tabetha, of Gloucester, VA., and Stephen Belch and his wife, Amanda, of Fayetteville; a daughter, Angela Setzer and her husband, Paul; and a granddaughter, Sara Harrison of the home; and 9 grandchildren.
