Obituary

Mr. Russell Eugene Mason, Jr., 69, of Fayetteville, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2007, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mr. Mason was born on September 2, 1937, to the late Russell E. Mason, Sr. and Eloise B. Mason of Fayetteville. Mr. Mason, a long-time resident of Fayetteville, graduated from Gordon Military Academy. He began his career at Carolina Telephone & Telegraph and went on to become National Sales Manager of Dynatel, a Division of 3M Corporation, of St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1982, returning home to Fayetteville, he established his own business, R.E. Mason Enterprises, Inc. The business has since expanded to include divisions of U-TECK, RAM/Co. Electronics, Vegetation Control Systems, and Simple Gardening. The organization today serves national and international markets. Mr. Mason had strong religious convictions and served the Lord in many areas. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday school director and initiated an outreach program. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 18, between 7 and 9 pm at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 19, at 2 pm in Jernigan Warren Chapel. Immediately following the service, Mr. Mason will be laid to rest at LaFayette Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Ann Kendall Mason of Fayetteville; mother, Eloise B. Mason of Fayetteville; daughter, Tammy Mason of Charlotte; son, Russell E. Mason, III., and his wife Cindy, of Fayetteville; stepdaughter, marcia Snyder and her husband, Paul, of Northern Ireland; stepson, Jeff Scribner and his wife, Julia, of Goldston; grandchildren, Thomas Walters, Joey Walters, Allen Walters, Brittany Scribner, Daniel Scribner, Joseph Snyder and Noah Snyder; and three great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Russell E. Mason, Sr., and a daughter, Jean Carol Mason. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Samaritan's Purse, Special Olympics, or a charity of your choice.
