Ruth Mae Carter, 89, of Beulaville, formerly of Fayetteville, departed this life and went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.
Ruth was born on June 20, 1937, in Cumberland County to the late William A. Brown and Kathleen Hair Brown. She retired from Rose’s as an office assistant after many years of dedicated service.
Ruth was a faithful member of Stedman Church of God of Prophecy. She loved serving the Lord and cherished her church family. Above all, Ruth loved her family, especially spending time loving on and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In her younger years, Ruth enjoyed gardening. She was also known for her love of watching the Hallmark Channel.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Mac Carter; her son, Ricky Carter; her granddaughter, Crystal Rice; her great-granddaughter, Chelsey Carter; her brothers, Earl Brown, William Brown, and Worth Brown; and her sister, Betty George.
Ruth was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her gentle spirit, love for her family, and devotion to the Lord will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Gerry Carter and wife, Patty, of Oak Island; her daughter, Karen Murray and husband, William Murray, of Clement; her daughter, Lisa Murphy and husband, Ricky Murphy, of Richlands; her sister, Jeanette Brown; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren, along with many other loving family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 12:00 noon at Stedman Church of God of Prophecy. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon prior to the service at the church. Ruth will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in the church cemetery.
