Ruth P.
Craver
October 11, 2016
FAYETTEVILLE Ruth Craver "Mama Ruth" passed from her earthly home to her eternal home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at Carolina Inn, Fayetteville.
Ruth was born in Carthage on September 11, 1921, and raised in Sanford. She was the daughter of the late John R. and Ada M. Powers. She was the eldest of seven children. In her youth she participated in basketball and softball, later becoming a very good golfer, even scoring a hole in one and winning many tournaments. In her younger years she enjoyed music and dance, especially the 'Jitterbug'. Her love for music included her favorite, Frank Sinatra and the big band sounds of Glen Miller and Tommy Dorsey and also The Platters. Ruth later used her love for music by playing the piano and organ, singing also in the church choir.
Ruth is survived by three children, Jeanie Orenstein of East Hampton, NY, Jerri Lynn Futch of Fuquay-Varina, and Smokey Craver of Myrtle Beach, SC; four grandchildren, Hope Ellen, Jaime Bohon, Kelly Stout and Chris Craver; four great-grandchildren, Aurora, Craver, Cameron and McKinley; and in-laws include, David Orenstein, Charles Futch, Cam Stout and Sheena Craver; and sister, Margaret.
Ruth was preceded in passing by her parents; husband, Gerald Craver; brother, Raymond; and sisters, Mozell, Grier, Helen and Billie.
Ruth cherished her faith, family and friends. She was loving, caring and kind not only to family, but also to everyone she touched. Ruth was known to all of the family as Mama Ruth and she loved her family beyond belief.
Ruth was stunning. Her features were remarkable, with a frame long and lean, and astonishingly beautiful, with hair that was so unbelievably beautiful in texture and color. She was a fashion model in her younger years. Her true beauty however, lied on the inside: she was so loving and caring to all that knew her.
Ruth never went out in public unless she looked elegant with her dress, style and class. She always dressed and acted like royalty. We often referred to her as "The Queen". She was never seen without her red lipstick and a beautiful set of earring, each her trademark. She was truly a beautiful and remarkable Lady!
She was blessed with a long, wonderful and fulfilling life.
The last few years of her life on earth, were spent in assisted living, at Carolina Inn in Fayetteville.
One of her favorite activities was bingo, which she won frequently. Everyone knew if she didn't appear to play she was certainly not feeling well.
Thanks to all of the nurses and staff members for the wonderful, outstanding care she received in the years she was there.
Jernigan-Warren is providing care for Ruth. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016, at 2 pm in LaFayette Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 to 1:30 pm at the funeral home.
Ruth: a life well lived and a love well shared.
