Mrs. Ruth Massengill Smith, of Fayetteville, passed away Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, in Carrol S. Roberson Hospice Center surrounded by her loving family and friends. She retired as a registered nurse at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fayetteville after 30 years of service. She was also a faithful member of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at 2 p.m. in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel in Fayetteville with the Rev. Robbie Byrd officiating. The burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, from 1 to 2 p.m. Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughters, Kathy S. Myrick of LaQuinta, Calif., and Pamela S. Stockton and husband David of New Windsor, N.Y.; brother, Wilbur Massengill and wife Betsy of Smithfield; sister, Nettie Pitts of Wake Forest; and grandchildren, Lauren and Grant Myrick, and Daniel and Katy Stockton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Smith. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Snyder Memorial Baptist Church, 701 Westmont Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28305.
