Mrs. Sammie Barrett Long, 91, of Fayetteville went to be with Jesus on Monday, March 7, 2022, at Carolina Inn. She was born on January 13, 1931, in Cumberland County to the late Harrison Barrett and Nellie Page Barrett. She was a former secretary of the Second Baptist Church.

Sammie was a loving, kind, caring and gentle wife, mom, grandma, sister, and friend to all who knew her. She met everyone with a smile and never met a stranger.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Chapel with Rev. Phillip Hall officiating.  Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12 noon – 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Sammie was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar E. Long; brothers, Russell, Don and Archie Barrett; sisters, Helen Guy, Bennie Stephens; stepson, Eddie Long, Jr.

She is survived by her stepsons, Norman Long, Danny Long (Linda), Greg Long (Tracey); stepdaughter, Donna Brady (Hal); brother, Vance "Bud" Barrett; sister, Judy Barrett; 10 step grandchildren and 12 step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 1337 Hamlet St. Fayetteville, N.C. 28306
