Sgt. 1st Class Alfonso (Momo) (Fofi) Molinar, was a beloved son of Aida, brother of Ruben and Pam, cherished fiancé of Lee Blackwell, fierce and true friend to many. Alfonso passed away on Sunday, March 30th, 2014.
Alfonso joined the Army in 2003 at the young age of 17 and trained in Ft. Benning. Alfonso began his career in the 82nd Airborne division with the Red Devils, 1st battalion, 504th parachute Infantry Regiment. From 2006-2014, he served in the 3rd group of Special Forces. Ft Bragg was his only station of duty.
Alfonso took great pride in soldiering and protecting his brothers. While with the 504, on a 15 month long deployment in Iraq, Alfonso started out as a fire team leader, was promoted to sniper team leader, then to sniper squad leader and finally, squad leader, all in 2006-2007.
Being infantry, Alfonso fought on the front lines and bravely faced danger regularly while on deployment. He received several promotions and awards including a Bronze Star (Jan 2012), Good Conduct Medal (2003-2006), Army Commendation Letter from 2003-2008, The Army Achievement Medal. He also attended several courses to propel his career forward, including, NCO Academy, Recon and Surveillance Leaders Course, and Senior Leadership Course, to name a few.
Alfonso had a big presence and a way of touching people close to him and strangers alike. He made fast friends with many. Once you were inside his circle, you were always in his heart. He was a great historian spending hours reading and watching documentaries about the history of civilization, war tactics and impacts.
Alfonso was a protector. It was difficult to feel fear when he was around. He was always full of laughter and he lived his life to the fullest everyday. He loved his mother, sister, and brother dearly, and spoke of them often. Not everyone is fortunate enough in this life to have 2 families. Over Alfonso's 12 years of service, he found another family that he cherished, in the brothers who stood to his right and left. Alfonso loved the fight, he loved the sense of duty, and he loved his brothers. He will be greatly missed forever, but forever in our hearts. The Lord has embraced him and he now sleeps in Heaven until we meet again.
