Shelria Katherine Baxley Long, 84, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 6, 2022, with her husband of 66 years laying by her side.

Shelria was born on July 1, 1938, in Cumberland County to the late Fred Dalton Baxley and Mary Lee McDuffie Baxley.  In the early 1950's, she met the love of her life while working at S & H Kress on Hay Street. Being the wife of a Airman, she spent many hours raising their children at home with her husband away but was also able to travel the world.  While stationed in Japan, she went to barber school so she could help the airmen keep their ears lowered.

She had a love for animals, especially the Cheetah, and wherever she would be, children always seemed to gather around her. She was always concerned for others and would cook enough for the 82nd Airborne.

Shelria worked as office manager for Dr. C.J. Pantelakos, where she retired in 1995.

She was the loving wife of Johnny Long; the mother of Shelria Gayle Bennett, Katherine Darlene Traver (Christopher), and son, Johnny Michael Long (Charlene); sister, Irma Darlene Frye (Bill); grandchildren, Erin Katherine O'Brien, Liam James O'Brien, Amber Leigh Roshan (Michael), Jonathan Andrew Long; and one special great grandson, Damien Jon Roshan.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Jernigan-Warren Chapel. Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 9-10 a.m. prior to the service at the Funeral Home.
