FAYETTEVILLE — Shirley Mae Smith, 78, of Fayetteville, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Shirley was born June 22, 1937 in Cumberland County to the late Ida Mae Carter and Thomas Hair.

Mrs. Smith was a faithful member of Judson Baptist Church and a retired school employee at Cape Fear High School. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Archie Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in Judson Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Byrd and Rev. Eddie Brookshire officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home on Thursday, February 25, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Shelly Darlene Jackson and husband Israel of Fayetteville and a son, James Thomas Smith and wife Tammy of Fayetteville; sister, Leona Coburn and husband David of Fayetteville and sister-in-law, Nancy Smith of Fayetteville; brother, T.J. Hair and wife Gayle of Sanford; grandson, Seth Jackson and stepgrandchildren, Israel Ray Jackson, Jr., Chasity Bass, Michael Bass, Jr., and Andrew Britt.
