Shirley Pugh Twine, 89 of Fayetteville, passed away August 25, 2013 at home in morn's early quiet hours. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Carter L. Twine and two of her children, Carter, Jr and Jennifer Ann. Born in Charlotte Couthouse, VA in 1924, daughter of Douglas and Alice Pugh, her young years were shared with ten beloved brothers and sisters on the farm. Although she left to pursue a career in nursing, a small piece fof her heart always remained in the red hills of Virginia. After Graduating from Randolf-Henry High School in 1941, and Virginia Baptist Nursing School in 1945, her career as a registered nurse started at Veterans Hospital in Fayetteville, NC. Later she served as head nurse of the recovery room at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, with some years away to raise a family. Always a nurse and caregiver throught her life, she had a gentle spirit, with a kind heart and deep faith. She made a quiet, lasting impression on all she knew. Shirley is survived by two children, Teresa T. Sullivan and her husband Bill of Greensboro, NC and Robert B. Twine of Fayetteville, NC, two grandsons and daughter-in-law Toni L. Twine and two step-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank "The ladies" of Home Instead Care who shared their lives, their care and support to make a safe haven for Mom at home. Just like friends, we couldn't have done it without you. Bless you all. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday August 28, 2013 at 9am in Lafayette Memorial Park 2301 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, NC. Visitation will follow the service and at other times the home. Funeral services will be held graveside on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at 9 am in LaFayette Memorial Park with Rev. A. Edward Beddingfield officiating. The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the residence.
