Mrs. Sonja Kaufmann Rucienski, 82, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014, at 11 am in Jernigan Warren Chapel with Father Jack Kelly presiding. The burial will follow at Cumberland Memorial Gardens. She was preceded in death by her mother, Anna Maria Schloderer and sister, Anita Niedermeyer. Sonja is survived by her husband of 56 years, Joseph Rucienski of the home; daughter, Eileen Cubbage of Chesapeake, Va; son, Alfred John Rucienski and wife Dianne, of Washington, NC; 3 grandchildren, Jason, Megan and Shane; 3 great-grandchildren, Reece, Carsten, and Olivia Grayce; and her beloved cat, Missy. She is well known as a master basket weaver and proprietor of Sonja's Baskets for over 35 years. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Monday from 10 to 11 am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fayetteville Animal Protection Society "FAPS", 3927 Bragg Blvd., Fayetteville, NC 28303. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 17, 2014, at 11 am in Jernigan Warren Chapel . The burial will follow at Cumberland Memorial Gardens.
