Obituary

Susan Wilson Barefoot, 76, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Valley Hospice House, with her loving family by her side.

Susan was born on December 13, 1949, in Durham County to the late Thurman and Patricia Wilson. She was a 1968 graduate of 71st High School. Just two days after graduation, she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Alfred Barefoot, Jr. In 1985 they built their forever home on the family farm.

Susan retired from the United States Postal Service after 32 years, where she faithfully served as a Rural Route Mail Carrier. During her years of service, she made many lasting friendships and touched the lives of those along her route.

Susan enjoyed reading, shopping and cooking, but above all, she treasured her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were especially dear to her heart. She and Alfred also enjoyed traveling together, with the mountains and the Outer Banks being among their favorite destinations.

Susan leaves behind her devoted husband of 58 years, Alfred Barefoot, Jr.; daughters, Jennifer Wright and husband Mike, and Diana Kraemer and husband Chris; sister, Diana Koonce and husband Clarence; mother-in-law, Rosetta Sheeder and husband Art; grandchildren, Skylar DeLong and wife Morgan, Landon DeLong and wife Graesyn, Ainsley Porter, Tayloranne Zoldan and husband Jake, and Nolan Kraemer; great-grandchildren, Bennett DeLong, Evelyn Zoldan, and Adeline Zoldan; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at Galatia Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Susan will be lovingly remembered for her devotion to her family, her kind heart, and the many lives she touched throughout her years. Her memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
