Susan Frances Cory Johnson passed away on December 20, 2021. Susan was born in Pittsburgh, PA, to E. Dana and Frances Cory, II on May 8, 1938. Susan graduated from Negaunee High School in 1956. She graduated from Western Michigan University in 1960 with a B.A. in Education. Susan taught elementary school in Michigan and Fort Bragg Schools. Susan also earned an M.Ed. in Adult Education from North Carolina State University. She retired from teaching after more than 30 impressionable years.

Susan loved God and served Him through music, teaching, and as an elder. Her most important role, though, was instilling a love of God in her two daughters and her four grandchildren.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents, Edward Dana and Frances Hanna Cory, II, her brother, Edward Dana Cory, III, her husband, Raymon Johnson, her great-granddaughter, Alexandria Johnson and her nephew, Dana Cory. Survivors include two daughters, Catherine Stapleton (Scott) and Alison Shirley; four grandchildren, Brandon Johnson (Heather), Faith Fryer (Benjamin), Andrew Stapleton and Caroline Stapleton. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Kathy Filkins (Harlan) and her brother-in-law, William Becker (Sue) as well as many family members and friends.

A visitation will be held for Susan on Saturday, January 8, in the parlor at Peace Presbyterian Church on Ramsey Street in Fayetteville at 1:00 p.m. Her memorial service will follow at 2:00 in the sanctuary. Interment will be at LaFayette Memorial Park at 3:00. Memorials can be made to Peace Presbyterian Church or the American Diabetes Association.
