Susan Rawlings
(Tolar) Williams
September 8, 1926 – September 15, 2021
Susan Rawlings Tolar Williams passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2021 with family at her side.
She was a lifelong member of St. John's Episcopal Church attending regularly until the pandemic shutdown. She served on the Vestry, Altar Guild, and taught Sunday School.
She was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames in North Carolina.
Susan attended St. Mary's College and Women's College (now UNC-Greensboro).
She was a retired co-founder of Williams Office Equipment Company.
She also was an active advocate for the mentally challenged and helped establish O'Berry Center Foundation in Goldsboro.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Westwood Tolar and Margaret Rawlings Tolar Thornton; stepfather, Frank Rufus Thornton; husband, LaMar R. Williams; daughter, Susan T. Williams.
She is survived by her son, LaMar R. Williams, Jr. (Debbie) of Fayetteville, daughter, Margaret W. Thomas (George) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; sister, Anne T. Wilson of Charlotte and Megan Murphy Langley (Michael Weller) of Raleigh.
Funeral services will be Monday, September 20, 2021 at 2 pm at St. John's Episcopal Church. Burial will follow in Cross Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home on Sunday from 4-6:00 pm.
The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Place especially those in Assisted Living led by LaShaunda Neal and Ericka Wills. Special thanks also to Cathy McDonald for her friendship and caregiving support of Susan prior to and during the pandemic shutdown. During her final weeks, thanks to Amedisys Hospice for their care and support especially Cathy Hall, Sheila Mackay, Candice Miller, and Caitlin Batton.
