Obituary

FAYETTEVILLE - Mrs. Suzanne Mingle Weidhas, 50, of Fayetteville, passed away Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, in her home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, in St. Patrick Catholic Church on Village Drive. Burial will be in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 310 Murchison Road, Spring Lake. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Suzanne is survived by her husband, Paul; parents, Walt and Pat Mingle; sisters, Stephanie Collins and husband Bob, and Sheri Collins and husband Rob; and nieces and nephews, Tayler, Drew, Hunter, Carson and Brodie. Suzanne was a graduate of Douglas Byrd High School and UNC-Pembroke. Suzanne was a loving and multi-talented woman. She shared that love and talent with many along the road of her life. High school saw her as a leader - both in sports and academics. She was president of her senior class. Her life as a military spouse led her from Fort Bragg to Fort Campbell, Ky., where she was very active in the Family Readiness Group, offering comfort and advice to the other spouses, especially during the Gulf War, Somalia and Operation Enduring Freedom (Iraq). She always worked with children, influencing their lives by the things she taught and the examples she set. Whether she was planning festivals or scheduling baseball games, she was always totally involved. She spent many hours volunteering with various organizations, including Muscular Dystrophy Camp, Operation Christmas Child, the Airborne & Special Operations Museum, the Cumberland Interfaith Hospitality Network (St. Patrick's Nazareth House), the Dogwood Festival and the Downtown Alliance. She loved cats! She loved musicals! She loved clothes and shoes! And she loved life! And, she shared that love with many. She was always the one to send a note or bring you a little gift when she thought you needed lifting up. She took pride in being the "cool aunt." She gave Drew his first cellphone, loved to talk to Tayler about plays for basketball or volleyball, teased Hunter about being a cute redhead just like her, and enjoyed playing games with Carson and Brodie, comparing her Nintendo games with theirs. Her first job after college was at the Boys and Girls Club of Cumberland County; she would be pleased if donations were made to the Boys and Girls Club of Cumberland County, 3475 Cumberland Road, Fayetteville, NC 28306. Visitation: Tuesday September 18, 2012 from 7-9 PM at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home Funeral: 11 AM Wednesday September 19, 2012 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Village Drive Burial: Wednesday 9-19-2012 at 2pm in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetary, 310 Murchison Rd.
