Obituary

Theodore "Ted" Wilton Melvin, age 91, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2014, in Charlotte, North Carolina, at Carolinas Medical Center after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Jefferson Melvin, Sr. and Ruby Ada Ellis Melvin; his sisters, Alma Berline Melvin Stubbs; Era Burton Melvin Marsh and Mary Kathryn Melvin; his brothers, William Jefferson Melvin, Jr. and Edward Graham Melvin. He is survived by his daughters, Joyce Green and Patsy Tart (David); his brother, Hubert Melvin (Janie); grandchildren: Robert Green (Dyanne), Jennifer Green (Snaebjorn Gunnsteinsson), and Kimberly Tart Lapeirre (Mike); and 4 very special great grandchildren. Mr. Melvin served in WWII in the Philippines and Japan. After 32 years, he retired from Sears Roebuck & Co. He was a consummate handyman and do-it-yourselfer, always ready and willing to tackle any task. After his retirement, he enjoyed playing golf, tinkering in his garage, salt-water fishing and most of all, planting his garden, especially tomatoes to share with all he knew. Burial will be at Tar Heel Baptist Church Cemetery, Tar Heel, NC at 1:30 pm on Sunday, August 17, 2014. Following the burial, visitation will be at 3 pm in the Chapel of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church, Fayetteville, NC and the Celebration of Life service will be held at 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Snyder Memorial Baptist Church, 701 Westmont Dr., Fayetteville, NC 28305 in his memory. Committal Service: 1:30 PM Sunday August 17, 2014 in Tar Heel Baptist Church Cemetery Visitation: 3-4 PM Sunday August 17, 2014 at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church Memorial Service: 4 PM Sunday August 17, 2014 at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church
