Thomas M. Shumaker
Retired U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major Thomas M. Shumaker, a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, of Fayetteville, NC died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 74 years of age.
He was born on June 22, 1935, in Hollywood, CA to the late Maynard and Harriet Shumaker. Command Sergeant Major Shumaker served in the U. S. Army for 32 ½ years. In addition to numerous other assignments, he served two tours in Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Air Medal. He retired as Command Sergeant Major of the US Army Sergeants Major Academy in 1984.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, two sons, Sergeant First Class Mike Shumaker and wife Marie of Ft Bragg, Jim Shumaker and wife Janean of Atlanta, Georgia, three daughters, Angel Azar of Huntsville, Alabama, Becky Jonason and husband Scott of Camas, Washington, and Donna Shumaker of Fayetteville, NC, and 16 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home. Visitation will take place at 10 a.m to 11am., with the service starting at 11 a.m. in the chapel, followed by burial at Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey street with full military honors.
