Tommie Edward
Purser Sr.
August 28, 1948 – August 2, 2025
Tommie Edward Purser Sr., age 76, left this world peacefully on August 2, 2025. Born on August 28, 1948, Tommie was the son of the late Thomas and Dora Purser, who were serving in the US Military in Austria at the time of his birth.
Tommie (Tom) was the son of an outdoor enthusiast, who grew up living all over the world due his father's occupation. Tom learned quickly how to hunt, fish, camp, and many other outdoor sports.
However, as Tom grew older, he developed a passion for football, baseball, and basketball. He played football for Seventy-First High School and went on to receive an athletic scholarship and played football for Mars Hill College.
After majoring in Kinesiology and Biology, Tom went on to teach science and coach athletics at Alamance Christian School. Tom ultimately left Alamance Christian School and went on to build a successful career in the insurance industry, eventually owning his own insurance agency for more than 30 years.
Tom's enduring passion for helping youth never waned. His desire to inspire young people to achieve their best on and off the field, while teaching the importance of teamwork, discipline and perseverance, continued as he was a dedicated member of his Raeford Kiwanis Club, where he served for many years. Tom's passion for sports and youth will never be forgotten.
Tom was also an active member of Village Baptist Church, where he enjoyed his Sunday School class and various ministries. He was a cherished husband of nearly 54 years to Becky, a loving father to Jennifer (Rodney), Joy (Andy) and Tommie (Stephanie), and a grandfather to Jordan, Ally, Kinsley, and Tanner.
A memorial service will be held at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home on August 5th, 2025, at 2 PM. The family will receive friends an hour prior at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Kiwanis Club of Raeford North Carolina.
