Obituary

CHAPEL HILL, NC- Lt. Colonel Marshall A. Lanter, Sr. Retired U.S. Army, 86 of Fayetteville passed away Friday, March 16, 2012 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, N.C. Mr. Lanter was born on March 12, 1926 in Thomasville, Ga. to the late Elizabeth and Robert Lanter, Sr. He was an Army veteran of World War II., Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired as the executive director of the Cumberland County Council on Older Adults after 20 years. He was a past president of the Fayetteville Rotary Club. Marshall was a member of the Church of the Open Door. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Lanter, Jr. and Sheftall Lanter. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. at Church of the Open Door officiated by Dr. Ralph Richardson and Rev. Jon Wixtrom. Burial will follow in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home on Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mr. Lanter is survived by his beloved wife of 61 yrs. Patricia F. Lanter of the home, son, Marshall A. Lanter, Jr. and wife Louise of Wilmington, daughters, Marsha L. French and husband Charles of Holly Springs, Melinda L. Fritz and husband Steven of Clearwater, Fla., Laura Lanter of Raeford,brother, Kenley Lanter of Thomasville, Ga., Grandchildren, Steven French, Amy Younce, Grant French, Christin Lanter, Melissa Lucas, Ashley Lanter, Austin Lanter, III., Emily Fritz. Services entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
