Velton Meredith Ray, 80, of Fayetteville, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mr. Ray was a member of Mount Carmel Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a retired employee of the Internal Revenue Service. He was the son of the late Daisy Dawkins and Otis Ray. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, in Mount Carmel Pentecostal Holiness Church, with the Rev. Wiley Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church; and at other times before 5:30 p.m. today, Oct. 1, 2008, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Mr. Ray is survived by his cousins, Cheryl Dawkins Singleton, Sandra Jackson Wingfield and husband James, Kenneth Jackson and wife Ann, Melody Dawkins and Mark Timothy Dawkins.
