Hope Mills, NC

With humble acceptance of God’s will, we announce the passing of Vicky Matthews Myrick on Wednesday July, 8, 2026. She suffered from ALS also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Vicky was born October 4, 1955 in Hope Mills, NC to the late Julius “Curney” Matthews and Louise Gore Matthews. On August 11, 1980 she became a born again Christian and continued to grow in her relationship with God until He called her to her heavenly home.

She was a teacher with Cumberland County Schools for forty two years prior to full time retirement. After retirement she assisted her husband with operating The Laundry Cottage in Shallotte, NC and Little River, SC.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, William Gray Myrick, her maternal grandparents, Lewis and Prudy Gore, and her paternal grandparents, Willie and Daisy Matthews.

She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Colon Myrick; two precious daughters, Brook and Courtney Myrick; a caring sister, Sherry Burnette (Todd); special nephew, Allen Burnette (Michelle); aunt, Carolyn “Doll” Matthews; stepmother, Margie Matthews; and stepsister, Janet Ridgen (John R.); sister -in-law, Lydia Whitehurst (Ronnie); and several nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by a great niece and a great nephew, Addison and Camden Burnette. Vicky, Addison, and Camden shared a very special bond.

Many acts of kindness and love were shown to Vicky and her family throughout her ALS journey. People she knew and many she had never met, faithfully prayed for her. She received cards, text messages, visits, phone calls, gifts, flowers and constant reminders that people cared for her. Friends and family built a ramp, cleaned house, planted flowers, decorated her house for holidays, mowed the lawn, prepared meals, ran errands, provided in home haircuts, transported her to doctor visits and volunteered hours/days of care giving. Every prayer and each act of kindness was a reflection of God’s love.
