Whittington Powers

Virginia W. "Ginny" Powers, 76, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
Ginny was born in Fayetteville, NC to her late mother, Vonnie Whittington, and her late father, Walter Baggett Powers, who was a member of the State House of Representatives.
Ginny was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Fayetteville where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed being a part of various groups and organizations over the years including Daughter's of the American Revolution where she served as Regent of the Liberty Point Chapter. She also served in the D.A.R. as a state officer. Ginny was past president of the National Society Dames of the Court of Honor. She also maintained membership of the Cape Fear Valley Scottish Clans as well as being a past president. She was a member of the Woman's Club of Fayetteville, also as a past president.
Other organizations that Ginny belonged to were First Families of NC, Founding Families of Virginia, Order of Washington, Colonial Wars, Daughter's of American Colonies, Colonial Dames, and the National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century. Ginny was in the Fayetteville Area Shag Association Hall of Fame. She was also a member of Cross Creek Pipes and Drums where she played the snare drum. Ginny loved life and lived it to the fullest. She will be missed by all who know her.
Ginny is survived by her significant other, Maurice Robertson as well as a brother, Andrew Cain.
A funeral service will be held 12:30pm on Friday, November 1, 2024, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Rob James, Jr. and Rev. Ed Beddingfield officiating. A visitation will be held at 11:30am in the Memorial Lounge at FBC. Burial will follow in Cross Creek Cemetery in Fayetteville.
