Walter R.\\"Jay\\" Averitt FAYETTEVILLE - Walter Roswell \\"Jay\\" Averitt, 86, of Fayetteville, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mr. Averitt was an Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elinor Autry Averitt; and his sister, Mary Elizabeth. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Judson Church Road in Fayetteville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Mr. Averitt is survived by daughter, Donna Compton and husband Dave of Amissville, Va.; son, Walter A. \\"Tony\\" Averitt and wife Dianne of Stafford, Va.; brothers, Roy Averitt and wife Ginny of Roanoke, Va., and Carl Averitt and wife Helen of Fayetteville; sisters, Dorothy Baker of Fayetteville and Frances Dees of Fayetteville; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
